Are you ready for Halloween? It's just two weeks away! A serious alert: we haven't yet hit our minimum sales to keep Persephone on the calendar. If you're planning to go, please reserve your tickets this week! We adore this event, and we'd hate to have to cancel.

Looking ahead beyond that: we have to remain alcohol-free for the foreseeable future...which means play parties will be back! Nothing scheduled yet, but expect something new mid-November.

- Tomorrow Wed 10.16 - Sinema Club ($0-10, members only) - Spooky season top pick: The Hunger, an aesthetic masterpiece sexy AF vampire flick with David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon. - This Fri 10.18 - Fierce! (FREE / by donation, open to all) - a dance party and mixer giving you one more chance to meet the community before the big blowout Halloween weekend. You'll surely want to know more of our peeps better by then...

- Wed 10.23 - Bedroom Badass ($0-30, members only) - You've been asking, and here it is: Rope Play 101! This is the second class in the series, where you will learn to broaden your skills a bit. We provide all supplies; you come get adventurous and learn new skills. Prior experience / class 1 attendance NOT required, but please be on time to catch the initial/refresher instructions. - Fri 10.25 - our grand Halloween Persephone event is back ($0-50, members only) - Kinky cabaret meets dungeon play party, against our Dark Decadance goth dance backdrop. Dark music, dark vibes, happy playtime.

- Thur 10.31 - Cute Halloween ($0, open to all) - G&S is testing out a new party idea...a Halloween with all the costumed excess treats but none of the horror tricks. Blood and gore are not for everyone! Come get cute with us. All ages, as well!

- Fri 11.1 - Taste The Rainbow ($0-10, open to all) - We're excited to bring back play events in November...which means you should develop those social connections with your fellow members. HoS is a community first and foremost. Join up and come to this free mixer to get to know it.

9.11, 9.18, 9.25 - Every Wednesday: House of Scorpio Clubhouse. Whatever your membership level, you are invited to use our space as your own for the night...as your clubhouse. While classes & movie nights take place in the main space, the bar and lounge remain open 7pm-11pm (12am if enough people are lounging). Just like with regular events, if you're Friend level and above, you can bring up to two friends with you. Order in dinner, have a few drinks, run a friendly board game, or just read a book on the comfy couch. This is not a mixer -- just us opening our doors for our members. It's up to you how much you socialize, if at all, and with whom. Miss Scorpio will be there herself running the bar and her vintage, designer & statement clothing boutique, so come have a drink and play dress-up.

If there's interest enough, we'll run the Clubhouse weekly, which means adding another stage-side activity on the first Wednesday of the month: kinky skill share? saucy life drawing? sassy photo sessions? What would you like to see happen? Let us know, and we'll work on setting it up.

The body's largest sex organ is the brain. Sinema Club stimulates yours with films that are explicitly erotic, homo-romantic, or gender-exploring -- and always thought-provoking. A rousing discussion follows; drinking is encouraged throughout, and mingling happens before, during and after: the bar remains open for socializing, while the film plays in the main space. Plus: free popcorn from our vintage cart. Order dinner in, and make it dinner and a movie.
 
This months screening: hot hot hot noir vampire classic The Hunger (1983) with Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie
 
When The Hunger was first released, it got mediocre reviews: dismissed as a stylistic triumph at best, but not a particularly noteworthy addition to the vampire movie genre. Yet more than 40 years later, the film remains a cult classic. It's not difficult to see why: look just a little bit beneath the surface of the plot -- a couple of sexy-as-all-hell vampires approach a beautiful young doctor (Susan Sarandon!) when one of the immortals finds they're having a serious health problem -- and you get unexpectedly poignant themes of mortality and loss of long-term domestic partnership alongside the more familiar tropes of power, sex, and bloodsucking. And of course, the film remains aesthetically breathtaking.
 
Our screening of The Hunger will be followed by a talkback with Nancy Roche, noted writer and academic. Nancy currently teaches film studies with emphases on gender and identity at Belmont University. We will discuss the film -- and vampire mythos in general -- through a queer lens.
 
Sinema Club is curated and hosted by Phil Guie-Ng (@thatphilguymovies): an inquisitive, ardent longtime film critic who is dying to tell you about movies you haven't heard of yet. As a reviewer at the website Film-Forward, his self-appointed mission was covering documentaries and features about subjects who challenged conventional attitudes about gender, masculinity, and more. When Phil isn't writing about movies, you can find him in Brooklyn taking part in protests on behalf of basic human rights.

Although rope seems like the obvious choice of bondage material to many, it is a very difficult medium for beginners to manipulate properly. We will make it easy for you by introducing basic safety and tool concepts before moving onto basic rope restraint techniques. These rope ties can be used decoratively and restrictively in a variety of positions, which can be customized to meet yours and your partners' physical abilities and personal goals.

- Basic chest harness with flexibility options
- Simple full body harness

All BB classes are a mixture of lecture, hands-on experience, and dedicated Q&A time. After class, stay for dedicated practice & play time to help you solidify your skills, while our teacher remains available for guidance. Class and practice are in the main space, while the bar lounge is open 7pm-12am if you want to arrive early or leave late -- or just need a break. Always BYO practice items, where relevant, though we will always have a selection on hand.

Our teacher: Multithreaded/Mike (he/him) is a long time rope enthusiast with 10+ years of experience in the NYC Rope/Kink community. He enjoys exploring the power and versatility of rope as a creative act of communication, connection, and shared experience through an improvisational and observant style. He also enjoys sharing knowledge and helping others along their rope journey.

We get asked all the time how people can join HoS if they are shy, don't have like-minded friends, lack PALs for play parties, have no idea how this whole thing works, don't feel like jumping into sexy activity but want to connect to open-minded humans, etc. This party is the answer!

Calling all LGBTQIA+, poly, kink, swinger and other "alternative" dating/sex/gender-aligned humans and their allies. We're creating a protected and judgment-free space for connections, conversations, community, games and interactivity. This is the key HoS event open to non-members. Come meet us before you join!

For those of you new to it all: direct introductions to HoS members new and old; facilitated discussions on poly, kink and swinger lifestyles; icebreaker games to welcome you to our club.

For our regulars: a way to ease new friends into our scene; a chance to meet all the new faces you may want to kiss later; a visit with the community even if your PAL is not around.

For everyone: tabletop and social games, both risqué and plain fun; a charming host to make the introductions and explain all things HoS and sex-positive, and a cozy setting for conversations and future kisses. Our main icebreaker game, HoS Guest Bingo, runs from 7:30pm until we have a winner: get to know everyone in the room, and win a drink if you complete your bingo card.

Miss Scorpio is back hosting the mixer! Come ask her directly anything you want to know about this community. We've been building it for you for 10+ years, and hope to be here for 10+ more.
