We have almost made it through the sticky summer! This always feels like the longest stretch before life comes back in September, but we are nearly there.

The other long wait that we're working on: the new liquor license. This one comes with a full kitchen offering, which means we have massive expenses still coming up, in the slowest stretch of the year. This is what we've been gearing up for all summer: now more than ever, we need your donations, memberships and ticket purchases! We're still about 10-20k short of where we need to be at this time. We thank you for your patience so far, and remind you that the Loft continues to operate with a full menu of non-alcoholic offerings as we wait on the license. BYO is illegal in NY State, so please do not put our future at risk by bringing alcoholic beverages into our space <3

The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival & won the category of Best Film Not in the English Language at the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

- Sat 8.31 - Snowing Man ($10-100 sugg donation, open to non-members) - Burn night party! Let the others play in the dust...we'll play in the snow. We'll stream the Man Burn on our giant screen and have bouncy dance music for you. Anything else? All depends on what the community steps up with. We're all ears. We now have a donation link up, so we can build a party budget.

- Thur 9.5 - Taste The Rainbow ($0-10, open to non-members) - all-gender all-orientation mixer. New members, this is the one to check out! Old members, come welcome the new. Historically, September is when nightlife comes roaring back, so start here to solidify your member connections before Lip Service the following week!

- Wed 9.11 - Bedroom Badass ($0-30, members only) - Rescheduled! Sensual Wax Play, part 2. One of our most popular workshops ever, and wow what a lovely time was had in part 1. All basic supplies are provided, and yes, you can stay and practice after the class. No, part 1 attendance is not required. While classes & movie nights take place in the main space, the bar and lounge remain open 7pm-11pm (12am if enough people are lounging). Just like with regular events, if you're Friend level and above, you can bring up to two friends with you. Order in dinner, have a few drinks, run a friendly board game, or just read a book on the comfy couch. This is not a mixer -- just us opening our doors for our members. It's up to you how much you socialize, if at all, and with whom. Miss Scorpio will be there herself running the bar and her vintage, designer & statement clothing boutique, so come have a drink and play dress-up.

This months screening: The Handmaiden (2016) - a South Korean historical psychological thriller directed, co-written and co-produced by Park Chan-Wook and starring Kim Min-hee, Kim Tae-ri, Ha Jung-woo and Cho Jin-woong. It is inspired by the 2002 novel Fingersmith by Welsh writer Sarah Waters, with the setting changed from Victorian era Britain to Korea under Japanese colonial rule.

The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival & won the category of Best Film Not in the English Language at the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

Plot: In 1930s Korea, a new girl is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress who lives a secluded life on a large countryside estate. But the maid has a secret: She is a pickpocket recruited by a swindler, who is posing as a Japanese Count, to help him seduce the Lady and steal her fortune.

Sinema Club is curated and hosted by Phil Guie-Ng (@thatphilguymovies): an inquisitive, ardent longtime film critic who is dying to tell you about movies you haven't heard of yet. As a reviewer at the website Film-Forward, his self-appointed mission was covering documentaries and features about subjects who challenged conventional attitudes about gender, masculinity, and more. When Phil isn't writing about movies, you can find him in Brooklyn taking part in protests on behalf of basic human rights.

We get asked all the time how people can join HoS if they are shy, don't have like-minded friends, lack PALs for play parties, have no idea how this whole thing works, don't feel like jumping into sexy activity but want to connect to open-minded humans, etc. This party is the answer!

Calling all LGBTQIA+, poly, kink, swinger and other "alternative" dating/sex/gender-aligned humans and their allies. We're creating a protected and judgment-free space for connections, conversations, community, games and interactivity. This is the key HoS event open to non-members. Come meet us before you join!
