Please understand how hard this month is on nightlife and your favorite venues, and please come support them so they can be here for you into fall and beyond.

The movie: The Handmaiden (2016) - a South Korean historical psychological thriller, with a steamy lesbian seduction at its center. The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival & won the category of Best Film Not in the English Language at the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

7.10, 7.17, 7.24 - Every Wednesday: House of Scorpio Clubhouse. Whatever your membership level, you are invited to use our space as your own for the night...as your clubhouse. While classes & movie nights take place in the main space, the bar and lounge remain open 7pm-11pm (12am if enough people are lounging). Just like with regular events, if you're Friend level and above, you can bring up to two friends with you. Order in dinner, have a few drinks, run a friendly board game, or just read a book on the comfy couch. This is not a mixer -- just us opening our doors for our members. It's up to you how much you socialize, if at all, and with whom. Miss Scorpio will be there herself running the bar and her vintage, designer & statement clothing boutique, so come have a drink and play dress-up.

If there's interest enough, we'll run the Clubhouse weekly, which means adding another stage-side activity on the first Wednesday of the month: kinky skill share? saucy life drawing? sassy photo sessions? What would you like to see happen? Let us know, and we'll work on setting it up.

Wax play gets a scary name, but it's actually one of the most approachable kink pathways. Bedroom Badass is our series of workshops to take couples and individuals through various steps in opening up their relationships, or in exploring more adventurous sexual experiences. Whether you're a total novice or an old pro, each class has a range of information relevant to all experience levels.

It's been a whirlwind two years since we first got the key to our new home, and we need to pause and do some house cleaning.

We're digging in our back corners now, but here's some of what we know will be for sale:
- Clothes! Vintage, designer, costumes, etc -- Miss Scorpio sells statement wear year-round, and she just stocked up some amazing finds for festival season.
- Furniture! You know we love collecting unique pieces, and there's a constant rotation here that leaves us with extra chairs, tables, shelves, etc.
- Lights! From basic xmas lights to retired stage lights, there's always too many
- Fabric & curtains! The secret to how we used to transform empty warehouses into cozy party spaces. We don't do that so much anymore, so up for sale it goes. Perfect for both space transformation and clothes-making, as we have brocades, silks, etc.
- Backdrops! HUGE ones, professionally printed for TV use (cough*SNL*cough)
- Stage platforms! sturdy AF 3x8 that are great for raised seating, stage, shelving, etc, 12 in total. A few sample ones are here, but you'll need separate arrangements to pick up the rest from our storage.
- Props! What will we find stashed in the back? We have no idea. Found so far: snow, water guns, misc decor items.

Plus: a community stoop sale! Want to bring a curated selection of funky secondhand items of your own? Drop us a line to confirm. You’ll need to BYO table or racks to set up, and be there at least an hour before event start. No fees, but donations to keep the loft going are hugely appreciated.

This months screening: The Handmaiden (2016) - a South Korean historical psychological thriller directed, co-written and co-produced by Park Chan-Wook and starring Kim Min-hee, Kim Tae-ri, Ha Jung-woo and Cho Jin-woong. It is inspired by the 2002 novel Fingersmith by Welsh writer Sarah Waters, with the setting changed from Victorian era Britain to Korea under Japanese colonial rule.

The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival & won the category of Best Film Not in the English Language at the 71st British Academy Film Awards.

Plot: In 1930s Korea, a new girl is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress who lives a secluded life on a large countryside estate. But the maid has a secret: She is a pickpocket recruited by a swindler, who is posing as a Japanese Count, to help him seduce the Lady and steal her fortune.

Sinema Club is curated and hosted by Phil Guie-Ng (@thatphilguymovies): an inquisitive, ardent longtime film critic who is dying to tell you about movies you haven't heard of yet. As a reviewer at the website Film-Forward, his self-appointed mission was covering documentaries and features about subjects who challenged conventional attitudes about gender, masculinity, and more. When Phil isn't writing about movies, you can find him in Brooklyn taking part in protests on behalf of basic human rights.

We get asked all the time how people can join HoS if they are shy, don't have like-minded friends, lack PALs for play parties, have no idea how this whole thing works, don't feel like jumping into sexy activity but want to connect to open-minded humans, etc. This party is the answer!

Calling all LGBTQIA+, poly, kink, swinger and other "alternative" dating/sex/gender-aligned humans and their allies. We're creating a protected and judgment-free space for connections, conversations, community, games and interactivity. This is the key HoS event open to non-members. Come meet us before you join!

For those of you new to it all: direct introductions to HoS members new and old; facilitated discussions on poly, kink and swinger lifestyles; icebreaker games to welcome you to our club.

For our regulars: a way to ease new friends into our scene; a chance to meet all the new faces you may want to kiss later; a visit with the community even if your PAL is not around.

For everyone: tabletop and social games, both risqué and plain fun; a charming host to make the introductions and explain all things HoS and sex-positive, and a cozy setting for conversations and future kisses. Our main icebreaker game, HoS Guest Bingo, runs from 7:30pm until we have a winner: get to know everyone in the room, and win a drink if you complete your bingo card.
